According to a recent study 53% of teens/kids charge their phone or tablet either on their bed or under their pillow. The heat generated cannot dissipate and the charger will become hotter and hotter. This can result in the pillow or mattress catching on fire.
Old appliances
Older appliances can pose a fire hazard because they may lack modern safety protections, such as over temperature protection, over current protection, auto off controls, self-regulating heating elements, and anti-tip switches. Also, over time the wires can be come frayed.
Dryer lint build up
There are an average of 2,900 dryer fires every year. The most common cause of dryer fires is failure to do a thorough cleaning. Because a lint trap is not a foolproof method for catching all the fuzzy stuff from clothes, lint can gradually build up and catch fire in the heating element or exhaust duct.

Faulty/outdated wiring
Outdated wiring often causes electrical fires. If a home is over 20 years old, it may not have the wiring capacity to handle the increased amounts of electrical appliances in today’s average home, such as computers, wide-screen televisions, video and gaming players, microwaves and air conditioners. Breakers should be triggered when circuits get overloaded by too much electricity, but outdated breaker boxes often have worn connectors that do not work, causing the system to overload and start an electrical fire.
Sawdust
If you’re doing renovations in your home or you have a woodworking space be mindful of the dangers of sawdust. Not only does sawdust ignite and burn much more easily than whole pieces of lumber, but also sawdust in the air ignites even more easily. Even a fine layer of sawdust poses a significant fire hazard in your home.
Make sure you regularly clean up any sawdust you create using a vacuum specifically created to collect combustible dust. Once the dust has been vacuumed up, it can be bagged in a plastic garbage bag and disposed of in the trash.
